    whats basic cable?

  27. americaneagle791 says:

Not too many people use VCRs anymore. You could just go through your T.V, and most T.Vs have an AMP or Receiver out, which is Right and Left RCA.

  28. Breal43 says:

  32. 1DanielChristensen says:

This is dumb basic cable sucks; over the air is the ONLY way to get good sound OTHER than satellite TV.

  33. asatruviking says:

@kdocki True 5.1 is a discrete signal which means each channel is separate. Stereo surround (pro-logic) is a matrix signal which means the center and surround speakers borrow from the left and right speakers. Also if you have a newer amp that has True HD and DTS Master than you should use HDMI for video and audio. Nothing but HDMI can pass uncompressed audio ( DTS Master,DD True HD, Disney uncompressed,)

  34. mytitans says:

    this is the “old method”

new method being “dont buy a prehistoric receiver”

  41. felttoaster says:

For some reason this video makes me want to buy a Blu-ray/VCR combo

  42. oph5pr1n6 says:

BTW my new receiver supports Dolby True-HD and DTS Master-HD so I’m covered. (Yes I’m Bragging.)

  43. oph5pr1n6 says:

If you have an A/V receiver that supports Dolby Pro Logic 2x or DTS NEO:6, you can get 5.1, 6.1, or even 7.1 channel surround sound from 2 channel audio. Its not as good as Digital 5.1but it does work surprisingly well. My First receiver didn’t have digital so I used to watch all my DVD’s using Dolby Pro-Logic II. Try watching Silent Hill in stereo, Then go back and turn on PLII or NEO:6 decoding. It works, and it works well.

    vcr FTW!

  45. mortalwinggk7 says:

    O WOW pshhh HDMI…..

  46. iamrich2000 says:

Thats just 2 channels, not sourround sound!!!

  47. kdocki says:

Most cable boxes come with a box these days so you don’t need to do this.

However, something I would recommend instead of a VCR, if you have a LCD/Plasma TV then it most likely has an Audio Out on it which will take any sound you would normally hear on your TV and send it to an amplifier or external sound source.

  48. kdocki says:

This is because your stereo amplifier can emulate surround sound. So the amp can produce a 5.1 surround sound feeling from background noises and ambient sounds. Why are you not utilizing HDMI for video and optical/coax digital cable for your surround sound?

  49. OscarBigOz says:

VCR? What is that? This is the year 2009 right?
