Question by Alok: How to connect a home theater system to a set top box.?
I have an LCD tv. My dvd player (home theater system) is already attached to it. So whenever I watch a vcd/dvd, i get the sound from the home theater speakers. But how can I get the sound of my tv channels (coming from my set top box) to come from my home theater system. Is there any way to connect the set top box to the dvd player.?

Best answer:

Answer by ckroush
Look for any audio out jacks on the box. Unless the box is for High Definition, you will not be getting surround sound, but it should have RED/WHITE composite jacks for AUDIO OUT. Running your red/white cables from the audio out to an input on your receiver should get you stereo.

If you have the “Home theater in a box” system with your Receiver/DVD player in a single unit, you are probably out of luck as these devices don’t have the connectivity that a custom built system would.

Question by Prince: How do I connect my Samsung HT-X40 home theater speakers to my Onkyo Audio Receiver?
I have no clue what type of connection the Samsung HT-X40 home theater speakers are.

Best answer:

Answer by triobrothers89
All speakers need two wires to work; positive and negative one.

One manufacturer blurp is to tell you this: always connect the positive wire to the postive output on the amplifier and the negative to the negative output on the amplifier respectively. But really, should you?

No! Not necessary! Its main purpose is to prevent ’short circuiting’ the speaker and amplifier, which can result in explosion or fire.

That’s because as long one wire goes through the positive and the other negative output on the amplifier, the speaker and amplifier should work fine.

Important note though: make sure the speaker impedance is supported by the amplifier and that the speaker supports more than the maximum power supplied by the amplifier.

So, modern theatre speakers have clips so that the two wires seems to be one. Just cut the end of the wire, not so close to the clip so you can always ‘reconnect’ them in the future, snapped them and separate the two wires so you can easily connect later, and then cut off a small portion of the wire head to expose the internal wiring.

There you go. Your Samsung speakers should now be easily connected via 2-input/output wiring on the Onkyo amplifier.

Again. Make sure the Onkyo support the impedance of the Samsung speaker, cause many modern theatre speakers have super low impedance of 2-4ohms, which on amplifiers that support 8-12ohms, you could be firing up the amplifier with heat which will do permanent damage to it.

Hope it helps.

Question by JKib: (why) do i have to use the sirius home docking station to connect to a satellite ready home theater receiver?
I’m in the process of purchasing both a sirius satellite radio and a satellite ready home theater system. I’m just not sure if i need to also purchase a sirius home docking station to connect the two. Why exactly is it a satellite ready theater receiver if i need a satellite docking station to make it work?

thank you for any info.

Best answer:

Answer by Craig A
“Satellite Ready” receivers generally have the Sirius receiver built into them- but the rub is that subscriptions to services like that typically enable ONE device to use the service. If you just want to use the receiver, don’t bother with the Sirius unit. You’re done, stop here. But…. If you need a Sirius rig for your car, you can also take that inside and use it with the receiver- and you’ll need the dock to do that. If that’s the case, ignore the “Satellite Ready” feature on your receiver, enable the portable unit, and buy the dock.
If you want to fire up both, you won’t need the dock- the second subscription is cheaper (as low as about .00), but the .00 activation fee remains the same, last I looked.
BTW: If you have a partner that might want to listen at home while you are at work or vice-versa, spring for the second subscription. Otherwise, you might get a free, involuntary trial of the “If you really loved me” channel with that new Sirius unit.

Answer by ibyt2692
if you have a cable or satellite box use digital audio coaxial cable
(it looks like an rca cable but is sheilded for digital use)
or better fiber optic cable to go from source to receiver. If your audio is coming from your HDTV then you should have a monitor audio out on the back of you HDTV usually a fiber optic and a pair of RCA jacks. the idea is to keep everything separate in home audio and video that’s why cables cost so much.

I want to know if sony ss-ts94 for the bravia dav-hdx258 home theater speakers can connect to any stereo system before I buy them of ebay. I don’t know anything about speakers or certain kinds of cables or if i have to use a receiver or whatever. I wanted to connect them to my JVC UX-GN6 micro system. Would they work? Please help?

Answer by RoBBiN BaNkS
All you have to do is check and make sure the ohms are the same. You also don’t want speakers that can’t handle the RMS watts of the system. Hope it helps.

Best answer:

Answer by Family Guy Fan
Get an audio cable (red and white on both ends) and hook one end to your audio out on your TV (if it has one), then hook the other end into the audio in on your surround sound. You should then get sound coming from anything hooked up to the TV as well such as TV programming and video games.

Running a pioneer elite 92 receiver, hsu hb-1mk2 for left and right speakers,hc1-mk2 center channel, hsu vtf-1 10″ sub woofer. I’am very please with there performance. They are a excellent entry level system. If you haven’t heard of hsu, visit www.hsuresearch.com they also build very good quality of sub woofers. As you can see,i’m only using a receiver and not a external amp.
Is it possile to connect the Home theater in a box’s reciever/dvd player into a separate home theater receiver in order to add speakers.

Best answer:

Answer by Paul F
You could connect the Stereo Sound Line Output of your HT-in-a-box to a Line In of your second receiver. You will have sound on all speakers. DD 5.1 on the HTB speakers and Stereo on the other Receiver’s speakers. If the other receiver is also 5.1 you could connect the Optical or Coaxial out from your HTB to the corresponding input of your other 5.1 receiver. You will then get DD 5.1 through ALL speakers. Of course, you get 5.1 if the source program is outputting 5.1.

If you want your receiver to focus purely on two-channel audio, the TX-8255 could be just the answer. It’s perfect for your living room, or anywhere else you like to sit back and soak up your music. The TX-8255’s rock-solid construction incorporates a heavy-duty extruded aluminum heat sink to ensure cooler operation. The whole unit is housed in a rigid, reinforced chassis – finished off with a hairline-brushed aluminum front panel – to help eliminate vibrations. You have a superb stereo solution that brings out the power and dynamism of your audio sources.
