Looking to get a PS3 for blu-ray movies and want a nice, yet moderately priced 7.1 home theater speaker system. I hear Onkyo is a good brand… any other suggestions? Or am I better off with just a 5.1 system???
Thanks for the help everyone!!!

7.1 SYSTEM IN A SMALL ROOM WILL MAKE YOUR EARS BLEED!!5.1 is more than enough and will be cheaper, and use less power!
i have just made this decision my self, for my ps3 and room, i went for a higher quality 5.1 system over a 7.1, simply for the better sound quality and features. The 7.1 only had 2 extra speakers and was more expensive
onkyo is a good brand but i went for a better yamaha 5.1 system
what is moderately priced? some blu-ray is native 7.1 now… so if you purchase 5.1 youre already starting behind the times .. dont listen to those assclowns … in a year youd spank yourself for not getting 7.1.
how big is the room … the guy that said it will make your ears bleed obviously knows little/nothing about home theater.
follow these guidelines:
1:how important is function …. repeat … HOW IMPORTANT IS FUNCTION
2: IF application is more important than function (meaning you dont want ugly speakers and wires everywhere then you probably want something very small and slightly noticeable in your room).
3: Take the time to think out where your speakers will go (important) because once you take the time to wire everything correctly … it will take twice as long to take the wires out and move everything accordingly)
4. Once you figure out a setup you will truly be happy with ..then start on the price … in other words ..dont start with a budget of say 100 bucks ..that limits yourself in ways you would not like
5. after you find a setup you like ..and is somewhat future-proof ..then start budgeting …. in-wall speakers are always a good choice for the rear 2 channels in a 7.1 system.
summary .. go over your room … youll need 2 front, 1 center, 2 surrounds, 2 rears, and a sub … figure all that out first … then youll find what the true pricepoint is on what youll be happy with.
